Out Bush

Anna Spencer’s second solo exhibition Out Bush presented new work made during a year spent living and working remotely in the Northern Territory. Returning to Lajamanu in the Tanami desert, Anna directed her focus on the nuances of both the community and ecosystem in which she is situated.

An ongoing collection of paintings and drawings, Out Bush collates Spencer’s observations of the isolated landscape around her, which explore the subtle beauties that arise beyond romantic depictions of desert landscapes. These dynamic qualities are compounded by glimpses of distant greener places, such as the lush forests that line the east coast of Australia.
